The Vortex Flowmeter is based on the Kármán vortex street principle. When a gas or liquid flows past a non-streamlined object, regular vortices are generated on both sides of the object. A differential detection element is installed inside the non-streamlined object, protected from direct impact or medium damage. The sensor converts the pressure pulses generated by the vortices into electrical pulses. A preamplifier processes the sinusoidal signal from the sensor and converts it into a pulse frequency or a 4–20 mA standard signal proportional to the flow rate. When a non-streamlined vortex generator is placed in the fluid, alternating regular vortices are produced on both sides of the generator, forming what is known as the Kármán vortex street. The vortex array is arranged asymmetrically downstream of the vortex generator. Let the vortex frequency be F, the average velocity of the measured medium be V, the width of the vortex generator be d, and the pipe diameter be D. According to the Kármán vortex street principle, the relationship is as follows: F=St⋅V/d Where:

• •F: Kármán vortex frequency generated on one side of the object
• •St: Strouhal number (dimensionless)
• •V: Average fluid velocity
• •d: Width of the vortex generator

Thus, the instantaneous flow rate can be calculated by measuring the Kármán vortex separation frequency. The Strouhal number is a dimensionless unknown. ​​Features:​​
