Currently, 1,3-butanediol is mostly utilized in surfactants, inks, solvents for both natural and artificial flavoring agents, and as a co-monomer in the production of specific polyester and polyurethane resins. Additionally, it can act as a humectant to stop moisture loss in cosmetics, especially in setting lotions and hair sprays. Additionally, 1,3-Butanediol is used in pharmaceuticals to produce dual peroxisome proliferator-activated gamma and delta agonists, which act as hypoglycemic agents that effectively cure diabetes, and colchicine derivatives, which are anticancer agents. Polyester and polyurethane resins are made using 1,3-butanediol as a co-monomer. It is utilized in solvents for both natural and artificial flavorings, inks, and surfactants. It is most widely used as an intermediary in the production of other chemical products, such as polyester plasticizers. It is a helpful chemical intermediate that has some application as a solvent and humectant. It is widely used in the production of sheets and boards for construction, custom mouldings, and structural materials for boats. 1,3-Butanediol provides flexibility, impact resistance, and weathering resistance. Additionally, it is utilized in the production of saturated polyesters for polyurethane coatings, where the glycol gives the polyester molecule more flexibility. Nowadays, 1,3-Butanediol is found in a lot of personal care products.
